Excellent for learning electronics
Bought this for a university project on IoT agriculture. The documentation online is plentiful, and the module itself is robust. The LM393 comparator makes the logic very stable.

Works great with Raspberry Pi
Connected this to a Raspberry Pi via an ADC converter. The readings are consistent and allow me to log soil humidity data over time. Very happy with the purchase.

Good value but probes need care
Great little module for the price. It detects moisture changes instantly. Just remember to wipe the probes clean after long-term use in soil to prevent corrosion, or consider coating them if using permanently outdoors.

Reliable for prototyping
We use these in our makerspace for various student projects. They are durable enough for repeated insertion into soil boxes. Only giving 4 stars because the included wires are a bit short for some setups.

Saved my indoor plants

Perfect for my Arduino project
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The analog output gives great granularity for measuring soil dampness, and the digital threshold is easy to set with the onboard potentiometer. Highly recommended for DIY smart garden kits.
Q: How do I calibrate the sensitivity of the sensor?
A: There is a blue potentiometer on the back of the PCB. Insert the sensor into dry soil and turn the screw until the digital LED just turns off. Then, insert it into wet soil; the LED should turn on. This sets your threshold.
Q: Is this sensor waterproof for outdoor permanent installation?
A: The electronic components on the PCB are not waterproof. While the metal probes are resistant to rust, we recommend coating the PCB with conformal coating or placing it in a waterproof enclosure if used outdoors permanently.
Q: Does this module provide an analog reading or just a yes/no signal?
A: It provides both! The DO (Digital Output) pin gives a high/low signal based on your threshold setting, while the AO (Analog Output) pin provides a variable voltage representing the exact moisture level, which can be read by an ADC.
Q: Can this sensor be used directly with a 12V power supply?
A: While the product title mentions 12V compatibility in certain kit configurations, the sensor module itself operates best at 3.3V to 5V. If you are using a 12V system, please ensure you use a voltage regulator or a compatible driver circuit to protect the sensor.
Q: What is the lifespan of the metal probes in acidic soil?
A: In highly acidic or saline soils, the exposed metal probes may corrode over several months of continuous exposure. For long-term projects, we suggest checking them periodically or applying a protective conductive coating.
