Great for university robotics lab
Bought five of these for our final year project involving fuel cell monitoring. They are easy to interface and the documentation provided by the seller was helpful. Highly recommended for educational purposes.

Good value but requires patience
The hardware quality is solid for the price. Just remember that these metal oxide sensors need a long preheat time (about 24 hours) before calibration gives accurate results. Once heated, it detects hydrogen leaks reliably.

Perfect for my hydrogen safety project
This sensor module works exactly as described. I connected it to an Arduino Uno and had readings within minutes after the initial warm-up. The analog output is stable and the digital threshold potentiometer is very sensitive.

Works well but gets hot
The sensor functions correctly and detects hydrogen gas effectively. However, the heating element gets quite hot during operation, so ensure your enclosure has adequate ventilation. Otherwise, no complaints.

Reliable detection, simple setup
We use these in our workshop to monitor battery charging stations. The response time is decent, and the LED indicator on the board is a nice visual cue. Make sure you have a proper 5V power supply.

Exceeded expectations
I was worried about noise in the analog signal, but with a simple capacitor filter, the readings are very clean. The build quality feels robust enough for embedded prototypes.
Q: How long does the sensor last before needing replacement?
A: Under normal operating conditions, the sensing element typically lasts 1 to 2 years. Lifespan depends on exposure to high concentrations of gas and continuous operation time.
Q: Can this detect methane or only hydrogen?
A: While the MQ-8 is specifically tuned for Hydrogen (H2), it may show some cross-sensitivity to other combustible gases like methane, but it is not calibrated for them. For methane, we recommend the MQ-4 model.
Q: What is the current consumption during operation?
A: The heater typically consumes around 150mA at 5V. Please ensure your microcontroller or power source can supply sufficient current.
Q: Does this module come with the comparator chip onboard?
A: Yes, the MQ-8 module includes the LM393 comparator chip, which allows for both analog voltage output and digital TTL output.
Q: Is there a library available for Arduino?
A: Since it outputs a standard analog voltage, you do not need a specific library. You can read the value using the standard analogRead() function in Arduino IDE. Many community examples are available online.
