Great value, minor documentation gap
The sensor itself is excellent and very responsive. I deducted one star because the included paper manual was a bit sparse on timing diagrams for the extra output pin. However, plenty of resources are available online. Build quality feels solid.

Good upgrade from HC-SR04
The additional output pin allows for more flexible integration without needing complex code logic to interpret the echo pulse width directly in some setups. Works as advertised. Just make sure your microcontroller can handle 5V logic levels.

Reliable and precise
Used this for my final year project involving an autonomous rover. The detection angle is narrow enough to avoid false positives from side walls, and the resolution is impressive for the price point. It has been running for weeks without issues.

Stable performance in varying light
Unlike IR sensors, this ultrasonic module isn't affected by ambient light conditions, making it perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. The range up to 4.5 meters is accurate. Very happy with this purchase.

Perfect for Arduino robotics projects
This HY-SRF05 module works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The 5-pin layout makes wiring incredibly simple compared to the standard 4-pin versions. Distance readings are consistent and accurate within the specified range. Highly recommended for obstacle avoidance robots.

Bought ten of these for our community workshop. Every single unit tested perfectly out of the box. The consistency between modules is great, which is important when teaching students about calibration. Fast shipping too.
Q: What is the function of the 5th pin labeled 'OUT'?
A: The OUT pin provides a digital high/low signal indicating if an object is detected within a preset distance, offering an alternative to measuring the pulse width on the Echo pin for simpler applications.
Q: Does the package include jumper wires?
A: No, the package contains only the HY-SRF05 module. Jumper wires and mounting hardware are sold separately, allowing you to choose the lengths and colors that best fit your specific project needs.
Q: Can this sensor detect transparent objects like glass?
A: Ultrasonic sensors generally struggle with soft or highly angled surfaces that absorb or deflect sound waves. While it might detect thick glass, thin or angled glass may not reflect enough sound for a reliable reading.
Q: What is the minimum detection distance?
A: The minimum effective detection distance is approximately 2cm. Objects closer than this may not be detected reliably due to the time required for the ultrasonic burst to settle.
Q: Is this module compatible with 3.3V microcontrollers like the ESP32?
A: Yes, but please note that the module operates at 5V. You will need a voltage divider or a logic level converter for the Trig and Echo pins when connecting to a 3.3V system to ensure safe operation.
