Reliable and privacy-focused

Easy to interface with ESP32

Impressive range and accuracy
Tested the 8-meter range claim, and it holds up. The ability to distinguish between a person standing still and a fall event is impressive for this price point. Highly recommended for DIY safety projects.

Good value for professional prototyping
We used these for a prototype in our assisted living facility trial. The detection logic is robust. Only giving 4 stars because the mounting brackets are not included, but the module itself is excellent.

Perfect for my elderly care project
This sensor works exactly as described. I integrated it into a home automation system for my grandmother, and the fall detection is surprisingly accurate without any false alarms from pets. The millimeter wave technology ensures privacy since there are no cameras.

Great sensitivity, needs calibration
The module is genuine and well-packaged. Sensitivity is high, but you do need to spend some time calibrating the range parameters via UART to fit your specific room layout. Once tuned, it performs very well.
Q: Is there a library available for Arduino?
A: While we do not provide an official proprietary library, the communication protocol is standard UART. Many users in the community have published open-source Arduino and ESPHome libraries compatible with the R60AFD1 series.
Q: Does this sensor work through glass or thin walls?
A: Millimeter wave radar can penetrate thin non-metallic materials like plastic or drywall, but glass may cause reflections that interfere with accuracy. It is best mounted in the direct line of sight of the monitoring area for optimal fall detection.
Q: Does this require an internet connection to work?
A: No, the sensor operates completely locally. It processes data on-board and outputs results via serial communication. Internet connectivity is only required if you choose to connect your microcontroller to a cloud service for remote notifications.
Q: Can this detect if a person is just sleeping vs having fallen?
A: Yes, the algorithm analyzes micro-movements such as breathing. If the subject is stationary but shows respiratory movement, it is classified as sleeping or resting. A sudden lack of movement combined with a change in height profile triggers the fall alarm.
Q: What is the power consumption in standby mode?
A: The module is designed for low power operation. In active monitoring mode, it typically consumes around 60mA at 3.3V. Specific standby currents depend on the configuration settings sent via the UART interface.
