Good sensor, requires patience
The sensor is sensitive and responsive to CO sources like a lit candle near the unit. Just remember that it needs a long burn-in period before readings are accurate. Great value for the price.

Great learning tool

Perfect for my home safety project
This MQ-7 module works exactly as described. I integrated it into an Arduino-based alarm system for my garage. The analog output is stable after the recommended preheat time, and the digital threshold is easy to adjust with the potentiometer.

Easy to interface

Solid build quality
The PCB looks clean and the soldering points are solid. The sensor element is well-protected by the mesh cap. Only downside is the power consumption is a bit higher than expected due to the heater.
Q: How long does the sensor need to warm up before use?
A: For best accuracy, we recommend powering the sensor continuously for at least 24 to 48 hours initially. After that, it typically needs a few minutes of warm-up each time it is powered on.
Q: Can this detect natural gas or methane?
A: This MQ-7 module is specifically tuned for Carbon Monoxide (CO). While it may show some reaction to other combustible gases, it is not optimized for Methane or Natural Gas. We recommend the MQ-5 or MQ-6 for those gases.
Q: Is the output voltage compatible with 3.3V logic boards?
A: The module operates at 5V. While the analog output scales with voltage, the digital output high level will be 5V, which may damage 3.3V boards. We suggest using a logic level converter if connecting to 3.3V systems.
Q: What is the maximum current draw?
A: The heating element typically draws around 150mA to 200mA at 5V. Please ensure your microcontroller or power supply can handle this current load.
Q: Does this module require a specific library for Arduino?
A: No specific library is required. You can read the analog value using the standard analogRead() function and the digital state using digitalRead().
