Good sensitivity, needs calibration
The sensor is very sensitive, which is great, but I had to tweak the gain resistor to stop false triggers from my ceiling fan. Once calibrated, it has been working flawlessly for my hallway lights.

Great for student projects
We used these in our robotics club for obstacle avoidance and presence detection. They are robust and handle the 5V logic level easily with a simple comparator circuit. No issues so far.

Works well but range varies
The module functions correctly, but I found the detection range drops significantly if there is metal nearby. Make sure to mount it away from large metal objects for best results.

Perfect for my DIY security project
This HB100 module works exactly as described. The detection range is impressive for such a small component, and it picked up motion reliably through a thin plastic cover. Integration with my Arduino was straightforward.

Compact and reliable
Small form factor makes it easy to hide in fixtures. The output signal is clean. Only giving 4 stars because the datasheet could be more detailed regarding the analog output scaling.

Excellent value for money
I bought five of these for various prototypes. They are consistent in performance and the 24GHz frequency seems to penetrate materials better than the PIR sensors I used previously. Highly recommended.
Q: Can this sensor detect motion through a wooden door?
A: Yes, microwave radar signals can penetrate non-metallic materials like wood, plastic, and glass. However, the effective range will be reduced depending on the thickness and density of the material.
Q: Can I power this directly from a 3.3V pin on an ESP32?
A: Yes, the operating voltage range is 3.3V to 5V, so it is fully compatible with 3.3V logic systems like the ESP32 or Raspberry Pi without needing a level shifter.
Q: What is the difference between the HB100 and standard PIR sensors?
A: Unlike PIR sensors that detect heat changes, the HB100 uses Doppler radar to detect movement via frequency shifts. This allows it to detect stationary micro-movements (like breathing) and work through non-metallic obstacles, whereas PIR requires a direct line of sight and significant temperature contrast.
Q: Is the output digital or analog?
A: The raw output is an analog voltage proportional to the detected motion strength. Many users add a simple comparator circuit (like an LM393) to convert this into a clean digital HIGH/LOW signal for microcontrollers.
