Great sensor, minor wiring confusion

The module itself is excellent and provides accurate data. I deducted one star because the pinout diagram on the back was slightly faded, making initial wiring a bit tricky. Once connected, it performed perfectly.

Good value for the price

Q: Does this module support both 2-wire and 4-wire RTD configurations?

A: Yes, the MAX31865 breakout supports both 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire RTD configurations. You simply need to adjust the jumper settings and update the configuration register in your code accordingly.

Q: What is the maximum length for the sensor wires before signal degradation occurs?

A: While it depends on the environment and shielding, we generally recommend keeping lead wires under 15 meters for optimal noise immunity. Using twisted pair shielded cables is advised for longer distances.

Q: Is a separate power supply needed for the RTD element?

A: No, the module provides the necessary excitation current for the RTD element directly from the board. You only need to provide VCC and GND to the module itself.

Q: Does the package include the PT100 probe or just the circuit board?

A: This listing includes only the MAX31865 breakout board. The PT100 or PT1000 resistance probe must be purchased separately based on your specific application requirements.

Q: Can I connect multiple modules to a single microcontroller?

A: Absolutely. Since the module uses the SPI interface, you can daisy-chain or individually select multiple modules by connecting each to a unique Chip Select (CS) pin on your microcontroller.
