Great for learning DSP
Bought this for a university signal processing course. The output is clean enough to analyze without complex filtering. Documentation online is plentiful which helped a lot.

Best budget mic amp
I have tried several modules in this category, and the MAX9814 consistently offers the best balance of sensitivity and noise floor. Highly recommended for voice assistant builds.

Solid performance
Does exactly what it says. The AGC feature prevents clipping during loud sounds. Only wish the cable was included, but that's a minor issue for this price.

Reliable and compact
Used this in a custom intercom system. The small footprint made it easy to fit inside the enclosure. Voltage range is flexible enough for both 3.3V and 5V logic systems.

Perfect for Raspberry Pi projects

Good value, minor noise
Great little board for the money. I noticed a slight hiss when the gain is maxed out, but for standard voice commands, it performs excellently. Easy to solder headers onto.
Q: Can this module be powered directly by a 3.3V pin on an Arduino?
A: Yes, the operating voltage range is 2.7V to 5.5V, so it is fully compatible with 3.3V logic boards like the Arduino Due or ESP32.
Q: Is the microphone capsule replaceable if it gets damaged?
A: Yes, the electret capsule is soldered to the PCB. If you have soldering skills, you can desolder the old one and replace it with a standard 6mm electret microphone.
Q: Does this output digital I2S audio or analog?
A: This module outputs analog audio signals. If you need digital I2S output, you will need to connect this to an external ADC or use a different module specifically designed for I2S.
Q: How do I adjust the gain if 40dB is too loud?
A: The gain is set by an external resistor connected to the AGC pin. You can replace the default resistor with a different value according to the MAX9814 datasheet to lower the gain.
Q: What is the length of the wires included?
A: This product typically ships as a bare PCB module without pre-attached wires. You will need to solder your own header pins or wires based on your project requirements.
