Excellent for university projects
Bought these for a final year project involving an autonomous vehicle. They responded quickly to obstacles and the digital output made interfacing with the microcontroller very simple.

Perfect for my Arduino robot car
These sensors work flawlessly for line tracking. The sensitivity adjustment via the potentiometer makes it easy to calibrate for different surface colors. Great value for a pair.

Great sensor, short cables
The sensor performance is top-notch for the price. My only minor complaint is that the pre-soldered header pins are close to the edge, making wire connections a bit tight if you have thick jumper wires.

Good quality, needs careful tuning
The build quality is solid and the LM393 chip is reliable. You do need to spend some time tuning the distance for your specific application, but once set, it performs consistently.

Reliable and durable
We use these in our workshop for various student prototypes. They have survived multiple crashes and still function perfectly. The infrared emission is strong enough for indoor lighting conditions.
Q: Is this compatible with Raspberry Pi GPIO pins?
A: Yes, absolutely. Since the module operates at 3.3V to 5V and provides a digital output, it can be directly connected to Raspberry Pi GPIO pins without needing additional level shifters.
Q: Do I need to solder anything before using these?
A: The modules come with header pins pre-soldered in most batches, ready for breadboard use. If you receive them without pins or need wires attached, simple soldering will be required.
Q: Can these sensors work outdoors in direct sunlight?
A: While they can function outdoors, direct sunlight contains strong infrared radiation which may interfere with the sensor's accuracy. We recommend using a shielding tube or testing in shaded areas for best results.
Q: Can these detect black lines on a white surface?
A: Yes, that is their primary design function. The reflective photoelectric principle allows them to distinguish between black (low reflection) and white (high reflection) surfaces effectively for line tracking.
Q: What is the maximum current consumption per module?
A: Each module typically consumes around 10mA to 20mA when the IR LED is active and the detection LED is on. This is well within the limits of most microcontroller pins.
