Excellent sensitivity adjustment

The potentiometer for adjusting sensitivity is a nice touch. Allowed us to fine-tune the detection threshold so small debris wouldn't trigger the counter, but our product boxes would. Very satisfied.

Perfect for my conveyor belt project

These sensors work flawlessly. I set them up on a small conveyor system to count items, and the detection is instant and reliable. The ability to switch between 5V and 12V made integration with my Arduino setup very easy.

Good value, clear instructions needed

The hardware quality is solid for the price. Detection range is accurate up to about 1.5 meters in my testing. Only giving 4 stars because the wiring diagram on the package was a bit faint; had to look up the pinout online to be sure.

Robust and durable

Been running these in a dusty workshop environment for three weeks now. No false triggers yet. The epoxy potting seems to protect the internals well. Great purchase.

Great for learning automation

Bought this for a university project. It works exactly as described. The alignment needs to be precise since it's a through-beam type, but once aligned, it's very consistent. Wish the cables were a bit longer.

Reliable through-beam performance

Unlike reflective sensors, these through-beam modules are not affected by the color or reflectivity of the object passing through. Very stable signal output. Highly recommend for counting applications.

5 FAQ

Q: Can I use this sensor directly with a Raspberry Pi GPIO?

A: Yes, you can. Set the voltage to 5V. Since the output is NPN open collector, you will need to use a pull-up resistor on the signal line connected to the GPIO pin to read the high/low states correctly.

Q: Can this handle high-speed counting, like 100 items per minute?

A: Absolutely. With a response time of less than 2ms, this sensor can easily handle speeds exceeding 100 items per minute without missing counts.

Q: Is the output signal NO (Normally Open) or NC (Normally Closed)?

A: The default state is Normally Open (NO). When an object blocks the infrared beam, the output transistor conducts, pulling the signal line low (to ground).

Q: Are the transmitter and receiver distinguishable?

A: Yes, they are clearly labeled on the PCB as 'TX' (Transmitter) and 'RX' (Receiver). They must be facing each other for the sensor to function.

Q: What is the maximum distance these can detect reliably?

A: Under ideal indoor lighting conditions, the pair can detect objects up to 2 meters away. For outdoor use or areas with strong sunlight, the effective range may be reduced to approximately 1 meter due to infrared interference.
