Superior to traditional PIR
Finally switched from PIR to millimeter-wave radar. The ability to detect stationary humans is a game changer for office occupancy monitoring. UART communication is stable and easy to parse.

Solid performance, minor latency
Overall very satisfied. There is a slight delay (about 1-2 seconds) when declaring 'no presence' after leaving the room, but this is configurable. The build quality feels robust for industrial prototyping.

Great value but needs careful calibration
For the price, this is an incredible sensor. Out of the box, it was a bit too sensitive to movement behind the wall, but after adjusting the gain settings in the PC tool, it works perfectly for my bathroom light automation.

Compact and powerful
The form factor is very small, making it easy to hide inside enclosures. Detection through thin plastic covers works well. Highly recommended for anyone building advanced presence detection systems.

Excellent sensitivity for smart home projects
This LD2410D module works flawlessly with my ESP32 setup. It detects even subtle movements like typing on a keyboard, which PIR sensors usually miss. The configuration software is intuitive and allows precise range tuning.

Best budget mmWave sensor
I have tested several brands, and Hi-Link offers the best balance of cost and performance. The documentation is clear, and the community support for this specific chip is growing rapidly.
Q: Can this sensor detect a person sitting still at a desk?
A: Yes, unlike PIR sensors, the LD2410D uses millimeter-wave radar to detect micro-movements such as breathing and chest expansion, allowing it to identify stationary humans reliably.
Q: Is the output voltage 3.3V or 5V compatible?
A: The module operates on a 5V supply, and the UART TX/RX pins are TTL level. While it runs on 5V, the logic levels are generally compatible with 3.3V microcontrollers like ESP32, but a level shifter is recommended for long-term stability.
Q: Does it work through a plastic ceiling tile?
A: Yes, 24GHz mmWave signals can penetrate non-metallic materials like plastic, drywall, and wood. However, detection range may be slightly reduced depending on the thickness and density of the material.
Q: What software is needed to configure the detection zones?
A: You need the official Hi-Link PC debugging software, which connects via a USB-to-TTL adapter. This allows you to set detection distance, gating areas, and sensitivity parameters.
Q: Can multiple sensors be used in the same room without interference?
A: Yes, you can use multiple units. To minimize interference, it is advisable to stagger their startup times or configure them to operate on slightly different frequency offsets if supported by the firmware version.
