Perfect for Arduino Projects
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The I2C communication is stable, and the library support is excellent. Measuring ambient light for my smart home project was easier than expected.

Excellent sensitivity

Good value but needs careful wiring
The module itself is great and accurate. However, make sure you check your voltage levels if using with 3.3V logic boards. Once wired correctly, it reads lux values very consistently.

Great for learning IoT
Bought this for a university project on automated lighting. The dynamic range is impressive, handling both dim indoor light and bright sunlight without saturating immediately. Highly recommended.

Solid performance
Works as advertised. The only minor issue was that the included pin headers were not soldered, so I had to do that myself. Otherwise, the sensor accuracy is top-notch for the price.
Q: What is the maximum lux value this sensor can accurately read?
A: The TSL2561 sensor has a dynamic range up to 40,000 Lux, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor daylight applications.
Q: Can I use this underwater?
A: No, this module is not waterproof or water-resistant. It must be kept in a dry environment or housed in a sealed enclosure if used near moisture.
Q: Is this module compatible with Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, the GY-2561 is fully compatible with Raspberry Pi via the I2C interface. Ensure you enable I2C in the Raspberry Pi configuration settings.
Q: Does this come with a library for ESP32?
A: While we do not provide a proprietary library, the TSL2561 is widely supported by community libraries available in the Arduino IDE and PlatformIO which work perfectly with ESP32.
Q: How do I change the integration time?
A: The integration time is adjustable via software commands sent over the I2C bus. You can select from 13ms, 101ms, or 402ms depending on your library functions.
