Great for university projects

Works well in indoor lighting
Performance is excellent indoors. I noticed some noise in the readings when testing under direct sunlight, which is expected for IR sensors. For indoor automation, it is a solid choice.

Good value but needs calibration
The module is compact and well-built. However, the voltage-to-distance curve is non-linear, so you will need to map the values in your code carefully. Once calibrated, it performs reliably within the specified range.

Perfect for small robotics projects
This sensor works exactly as described. The analog output is smooth and easy to read with an Arduino ADC. I used it for a line-following robot obstacle avoidance system, and the 15cm range is ideal for small-scale applications.

Easy to connect and test
As a beginner, I appreciated the clear pinout labeling. Connecting VCC, GND, and OUT was straightforward. The example code found online made testing the voltage changes very simple.

Reliable and consistent
We ordered ten of these for our workshop. All units performed consistently with minimal variance between them. The build quality feels sturdy enough for prototyping environments.
Q: Can this sensor detect black objects effectively?
A: Infrared sensors rely on light reflection. Black objects absorb more IR light, which can reduce the effective detection range. You may need to adjust your threshold values in the code for dark surfaces.
Q: Can I use this outdoors?
A: This sensor is designed primarily for indoor use. Strong sunlight contains infrared radiation that can interfere with the sensor's emitter, causing inaccurate readings outdoors.
Q: Does this come with a library for Arduino?
A: While we do not provide a proprietary library, the sensor works with standard analogRead functions. Many open-source libraries for Sharp IR sensors are compatible with this module's characteristics.
Q: Is the output digital or analog?
A: This GP2Y module provides an analog voltage output that varies based on the distance to the object. You will need to use an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) on your microcontroller to read the distance.
Q: What is the minimum operating voltage?
A: The sensor operates reliably between 4.5V and 5.5V. We recommend powering it with a stable 5V source to ensure accurate readings and prevent instability.
