Works well but range varies

The detection range really depends on how big the flame is. A small lighter flame is detected at 40cm, while a larger gas stove flame triggers it at nearly a meter. Just manage your expectations on range.

Perfect for my fire safety robot project

This sensor works exactly as described. It detected the candle flame from about 80cm away instantly. The sensitivity potentiometer makes it easy to adjust for different environments. Great value for the price.

Excellent value

For the cost, you cannot beat this sensor. It responds quickly and the indicator LED on the board is helpful for debugging without needing a multimeter constantly.

Easy to connect to Arduino

I am new to electronics and this was very easy to wire up. The digital output goes low when a flame is detected, making the code logic simple. Documentation online helped a lot too.

Reliable component for prototypes

Bought five of these for a batch of prototype alarms. All units performed consistently. The build quality of the PCB is solid and the pins are well-soldered.

Good sensitivity, needs calibration

The module is very sensitive to infrared light, which is good for detection but means you have to calibrate it carefully to avoid false positives from sunlight or bright lamps. Once tuned, it works reliably.

Q: Can this detect smoke or only actual flames?

A: This is an infrared flame sensor designed specifically to detect the wavelength of fire/flames. It does not detect smoke particles; for smoke detection, you would need a dedicated photoelectric or ionization smoke sensor.

Q: Is the mounting hole size standard for M3 screws?

A: Yes, the mounting holes are approximately 3mm in diameter, which is suitable for standard M3 screws commonly used in electronics enclosures and standoff kits.

Q: Does this module work with 3.3V logic levels like ESP32?

A: Yes, the module operates on a voltage range of 3.3V to 5V, so it is fully compatible with 3.3V microcontrollers like the ESP32 and ESP8266.

Q: What is the difference between the 3-wire and 4-wire versions?

A: Functionally they are the same. The 4-wire version often includes an extra pin for analog output (AO) in addition to the digital output (DO), allowing you to read varying intensity levels rather than just a binary trigger.

Q: Will direct sunlight cause false alarms?

A: Sunlight contains infrared radiation and can potentially trigger the sensor if it is very intense and directly hits the receiver. We recommend shielding the sensor or adjusting the sensitivity potentiometer to mitigate this in outdoor applications.
