Easy to use for beginners
I was worried about wiring this up, but the pins are clearly labeled (VCC, GND, DO, AO). Following a simple tutorial, I had an LED light up when I lit a match in under 10 minutes. Highly recommended for learning.

Excellent for university projects
Used this for our final year fire alarm system project. The response time is incredibly fast. Documentation online is plentiful, which helped us integrate it with our IoT dashboard quickly.

Good value, needs calibration
Great little module for the price. Out of the box, it was a bit too sensitive to sunlight, but after tweaking the potentiometer, it only triggers on actual fire sources. The digital output is clean and easy to read.

Works well but range varies
The detection range really depends on how big the flame is. For a candle, it's about 80cm, but for a larger gas flame, it picks it up from over a meter. Just manage your expectations based on the test source size.

Reliable and robust
We bought ten of these for our makerspace kits. They have held up well under constant use by students. The 3-wire and 4-wire options give flexibility depending on whether you need just the digital signal or analog data too.

Perfect for my home safety prototype
This sensor works exactly as described. I connected it to an Arduino Uno, and the sensitivity adjustment pot made it easy to calibrate for my specific room lighting conditions. It detects a lighter flame instantly from about a meter away.
Q: Is the detection angle wide or narrow?
A: The sensor has a relatively narrow detection angle of approximately 60 degrees. For wider coverage, we recommend using multiple sensors positioned at different angles.
Q: Does this module provide an analog output or only digital?
A: This module provides both. The 4-wire version includes an Analog Output (AO) pin that gives a voltage proportional to the flame intensity, in addition to the Digital Output (DO) which acts as a switch.
Q: How do I adjust the sensitivity if it keeps triggering falsely?
A: Locate the blue potentiometer on the PCB. Turn it counter-clockwise to decrease sensitivity. Test with your microcontroller while adjusting until false alarms stop but real flames are still detected.
Q: What is the maximum voltage I can supply to the VCC pin?
A: The operating voltage range is 3.3V to 5V DC. Please do not exceed 5V as it may damage the comparator chip and the IR receiver on the board.
Q: Can this sensor detect smoke?
A: No, this is specifically an infrared flame sensor designed to detect the wavelength emitted by flames. It cannot detect smoke particles; you would need a dedicated smoke sensor module for that purpose.
