Good value but sensitive to sunlight
Great little module for the price. It works perfectly indoors. However, I noticed it gets a bit erratic when used near a window with direct sunlight, likely due to IR interference. Still recommended for indoor bots.

Works as described
Does exactly what it says on the tin. The 80cm range is achievable with highly reflective surfaces, but expect about 50-60cm for matte black objects. Adjusting the screw takes a little patience but works well.

Perfect for Arduino Robot Projects
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The detection range is accurate up to about 70cm in normal indoor lighting. The potentiometer makes it very easy to fine-tune the sensitivity for specific obstacles.

Easy to integrate
The 3-wire setup is incredibly simple. VCC to 5V, GND to ground, and OUT to a digital pin. The LEDs provide clear visual feedback on power and detection status. Highly recommend for beginners.

Best budget obstacle sensor
I have tried several different brands, and this E18-D80NK offers the best balance of range and stability for the price. The NPN output is standard and easy to work with for most microcontrollers.

Reliable and Consistent
We bought ten of these for a university workshop. All units performed consistently out of the box. The build quality feels sturdy enough for student projects involving mobile robots.
Q: How do I adjust the detection range?
A: There is a small blue potentiometer (screw) on the back of the module. Use a small Phillips head screwdriver to turn it clockwise to increase range or counter-clockwise to decrease it while testing with your target object.
Q: Can this sensor be powered by 3.3V instead of 5V?
A: While some users report it working at 3.3V, the specifications state 5V DC for optimal performance and reliable detection range. We recommend using a 5V power source.
Q: Is the output signal analog or digital?
A: The E18-D80NK provides a digital output (High/Low). When an object is detected within the set range, the output goes Low (0V) for this NPN model.
Q: What is the thread size for mounting this sensor?
A: The sensor body has a standard M18 threading, allowing you to easily mount it using common M18 nuts and brackets available at hardware stores.
Q: Does this work well with black objects?
A: Dark or black objects absorb more infrared light, which reduces the effective detection distance. You may need to adjust the sensitivity potentiometer or place the sensor closer to black obstacles.
