Finally a sensor that doesn't rust!
I've gone through so many resistive sensors that corroded within weeks. This capacitive module has been in my tomato planter for three months now and looks brand new. The analog output is smooth and easy to read with my Arduino.

Exceeded expectations
Bought five of these for a greenhouse project. All five work perfectly. The corrosion resistance is the main selling point and it delivers. Highly recommend for any long-term monitoring setup.

Perfect for automation projects
Using this to trigger my water pump automatically. The wide voltage range means I can power it directly from my 3.3V ESP8266 without extra regulators. Very happy with the purchase.

Great value, needs calibration
Works exactly as described. Just remember that you need to calibrate the dry and wet values in your code for your specific soil type. Once calibrated, it's very consistent. Deducted one star because the included cable is a bit short.

Robust and reliable
The build quality is surprisingly good for the price. The gold plating on the probes seems durable. I tested it against a professional meter and the readings were comparable after some tweaking.

Good sensitivity
It picks up moisture changes very quickly. I noticed it reacts almost instantly when I water the plants. Make sure to seal the top edge of the PCB if you are burying it deep, just to be safe from splashes.
Q: Does this measure temperature as well?
A: No, this module is designed specifically for detecting soil moisture levels via capacitive sensing. It does not have a temperature sensor.
Q: Can this sensor be used directly with a 5V Arduino Uno?
A: Yes, the module operates within DC 3.3V to 5.5V, so it is fully compatible with the 5V logic and power supply of an Arduino Uno.
Q: How deep should I insert the sensor into the soil?
A: For best results, insert the prongs fully into the soil but ensure the electronic components on the PCB remain above the soil line to prevent water damage to the circuitry.
Q: Is the output digital or analog?
A: This specific model provides an Analog Output (AO). If you need a digital signal, you will need to connect the AO pin to an ADC on your microcontroller or set a threshold in your code.
Q: Will this work in salty soil conditions?
A: While the sensor is corrosion resistant, highly saline soil can affect capacitive readings. We recommend calibrating the sensor specifically for your soil conditions to ensure accuracy.
