Great value for the price
Bought five of these for a home automation project. Four worked perfectly out of the box. One had a slightly loose pin header, but I just re-soldered it. Accuracy is good for general ambient light detection.

Good sensor, minor documentation issues
The hardware itself is excellent. The only downside is that the included paper manual is very basic. You definitely need to look up the datasheet online for advanced configuration modes.

Bulk buy success
Purchased a lot for our community makerspace. Students love using these for light-activated projects. They are durable and have survived many plug/unplug cycles on our shared breadboards.

Perfect for Arduino Projects
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The I2C library is easy to find and implement. Readings are stable and respond quickly to changes in room lighting.

Easy to use for beginners
I was worried about setting up an I2C sensor as a beginner, but the tutorials online made it very simple. The module comes ready to plug into a breadboard. Highly recommended for learning.

Reliable and Consistent
Using this on a mobile robot to detect dark areas. The response time is fast enough for real-time navigation adjustments. The spectral response feels accurate compared to more expensive industrial sensors.
Q: Is there a library available for ESP32?
A: Yes, there are several open-source libraries available in the Arduino IDE Library Manager that support the ESP32. Simply search for 'BH1750' and install a highly-rated one to get started quickly.
Q: Can this sensor measure UV light intensity?
A: No, the BH1750FVI is designed specifically for visible ambient light (illuminance) and mimics human eye sensitivity. It does not provide accurate readings for UV or IR spectrums.
Q: How do I clean the sensor surface if it gets dusty?
A: You can gently wipe the black sensor window with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid using liquids or abrasive materials, as they may damage the optical filter or the underlying chip.
Q: Does this module work with 5V logic levels directly?
A: Yes, the BH1750FVI module operates between 3.0V and 5.5V, so it can be connected directly to 5V microcontrollers like the standard Arduino Uno without a level shifter.
Q: What is the default I2C address for this sensor?
A: The default I2C address is typically 0x23. However, some variations allow you to change the address to 0x5C by modifying the address pin connection. Please check the specific schematic provided with your batch.
