Perfect for beginners!
I bought the Medium Kai size to start learning calligraphy. The brush tip is flexible but not too floppy, making it easy to control thick and thin lines. Highly recommend for anyone starting out.

Great flow, dries quickly
The ink flows very smoothly without blotching. It dries relatively fast on standard paper, which prevents smudging. I wish the cap felt a bit more secure, but overall a solid pen.

Love the Extra-Fine tip
The Extra-Fine Small Kai is amazing for detailed line drawing and lettering. It mimics a real brush perfectly but offers much more precision. The white barrel looks professional too.

Excellent value
For the price, you really can't beat the quality. I've used expensive brands before, and this Marie's pen holds its own. The grip is comfortable for long drawing sessions.

Good for practice sheets
I use these for my daily practice sheets. They are consistent and reliable. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the ink isn't waterproof, so be careful if you plan to use watercolors over it.
Q: Which size is best for modern calligraphy?
A: For modern calligraphy, most users prefer the Medium Kai or Large Kai sizes as they allow for greater variation in line width with pressure changes. The Extra-Fine is better for detailed outlining.
Q: Can I refill these pens once the ink runs out?
A: These pens are designed as disposable units and do not have a refillable cartridge system. Once the ink is depleted, the entire pen should be recycled or replaced.
Q: Does this pen work well on glossy photo paper?
A: While it can write on glossy surfaces, the drying time will be significantly longer, and there is a higher risk of smudging. We recommend using it on matte or slightly textured paper for best results.
Q: Is the ink in these pens waterproof?
A: No, the ink is water-based and designed for smooth flow and easy cleaning, so it is not waterproof. We recommend letting it dry completely before adding other media.
Q: Are the caps interchangeable between the different sizes?
A: Yes, the cap design is consistent across the Extra-Fine, Medium, and Large Kai sizes, so they are physically interchangeable, though we recommend keeping them with their original pens to avoid confusion.
