Authentic R36S is worth the extra cost
Make sure you buy the authentic version with the V30 board. The difference in heat management and frame pacing is noticeable. No more random crashes during long sessions.

Best budget handheld on the market
The V30 motherboard makes a huge difference in stability compared to older clones. The screen is crisp, and the battery lasts for hours. Highly recommended for anyone getting into retro gaming.

Perfect for PSP and PS1 games
I was skeptical about the emulation quality, but this device handles PSP and PS1 games smoothly. The buttons are clicky and responsive. It's become my daily carry-on for commutes.

Great value, minor setup needed
Out of the box, it works well, but I recommend updating the SD card image for better performance. The build quality feels solid for the price point. WiFi connectivity is a nice bonus for downloading covers.

Compact and powerful
Fits perfectly in my jacket pocket. The analog sticks are surprisingly good for a device this size. Only wish the D-pad was slightly less stiff, but it might break in over time.

Good hardware, software needs tweaking
The hardware is excellent, especially the screen brightness. However, the pre-loaded game list is a bit messy. If you are willing to spend an hour organizing your libraries, it's a 5-star device.
Q: How long does the battery last on a full charge?
A: Battery life varies by emulator intensity, but typically ranges from 6 to 8 hours for GBA/SNES games and around 4 to 5 hours for PSP or N64 titles.
Q: What is the difference between V30 and older motherboards?
A: The new V30 motherboard offers improved power efficiency, better thermal management, and enhanced compatibility with demanding emulators like Dreamcast and PSP compared to previous versions.
Q: Is the WiFi used for online multiplayer?
A: The built-in WiFi is primarily used for accessing the Linux terminal, updating the system, downloading game box art, and transferring files via SFTP. Most retro games do not support online multiplayer.
Q: Does this console come with games pre-installed?
A: Yes, the device comes with a 64GB SD card containing thousands of pre-loaded retro games across various systems up to PSP and Dreamcast.
Q: Can I connect this to a TV?
A: The R36S does not have an HDMI output port. It is designed strictly as a handheld device with its own 3.5-inch screen.
