Solid Professional Set
Very good quality for the price. The sticks are hard and durable. I noticed the blue and green mineral tones are particularly striking in freehand landscapes.

Beautiful Colors, Requires Patience
The color range is stunning for landscape work. Just remember that as traditional ink sticks, they require time to grind with water to achieve the desired consistency. Not instant like liquid ink, but worth it.

Exceptional Quality for Traditional Art
These ink sticks are absolutely wonderful. The colors are vibrant yet authentic to traditional Chinese painting styles. They grind smoothly on my inkstone without any grittiness.

Perfect for Gongbi Work
I use these primarily for detailed Gongbi paintings. The pigment density is excellent, allowing for precise layering. The natural mineral components really make a difference in the finish.

Authentic Hu Kaiwen Experience
As a long-time user of Hu Kaiwen products, this twelve-color set maintains the high standard I expect. The blacks are deep and the colored pigments mix beautifully with water.
Q: What is the best way to store these ink sticks to prevent cracking?
A: Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes. Keeping them in their original box helps maintain their condition.
Q: How long does one stick typically last with daily use?
A: With daily moderate use, a single stick can last several months. Since you grind only what you need, the set offers excellent longevity.
Q: Are the materials safe for children to use?
A: Yes, the ingredients are natural mineral components and are generally non-toxic. However, we recommend adult supervision for young children during the grinding process.
Q: Can these be used on rice paper or only on silk?
A: These pigments are versatile and can be used on both Xuan rice paper and silk, depending on your preferred painting technique.
Q: Do these ink sticks come with an inkstone?
A: No, this set includes only the twelve colored ink sticks and their packaging box. An inkstone and water dropper must be purchased separately.
