Perfect for AI Voice Projects
This board is exactly what I needed for my Xiaozhi voice assistant project. The screen quality is crisp, and the microphone array picks up voice commands clearly even from a distance. Setup with the official SDK was straightforward.

Solid build quality
Waveshare never disappoints with build quality. The PCB is thick, connectors feel sturdy, and the screen is well-protected. The inclusion of the camera interface makes it versatile for vision-based projects too.

Excellent value for money
Considering you get a high-res touchscreen, camera interface, and powerful dual-core processor in one package, the price is unbeatable. I'm using it for a smart home control panel and it looks very professional.

Good learning tool for Edge AI
Using this for my university final year project on edge computing. The AI capabilities are impressive for the size. Only giving 4 stars because the battery charging circuit requires careful monitoring if using a custom Li-Po cell.

Touch response is surprisingly good
I was worried about the touch latency on an embedded board, but the capacitive touch on this 3.5-inch screen is very responsive. It makes building UIs for IoT devices much more enjoyable. Highly recommended for prototyping.

Great hardware, documentation could be better
The hardware itself is fantastic. The ESP32-S3 handles the display and camera simultaneously without lag. However, some of the pinout diagrams in the wiki were slightly confusing for the camera module. Once figured out, it works like a charm.
Q: What programming environments are supported?
A: This board supports ESP-IDF, Arduino IDE, MicroPython, and CircuitPython. Most examples for the LCD and camera are provided in C++ and Python.
Q: Does the screen support multi-touch gestures?
A: The capacitive touch controller supports basic multi-touch gestures like two-finger scrolling and zooming, depending on the driver and library implementation you use in your code.
Q: Does this board come with a camera module included?
A: No, the development board includes the interface and connector for the camera, but the camera module (such as OV2640) must be purchased separately.
Q: Is the Xiaozhi AI firmware pre-installed?
A: The board comes with a demo firmware to test basic functions. To use the full Xiaozhi AI features, you will need to flash the specific Xiaozhi AI project firmware available on our GitHub repository.
Q: Can I power this board directly from a 3.7V Li-Po battery?
A: Yes, there is a dedicated JST connector for Li-Po batteries. The board includes a charging circuit, so you can connect a single-cell 3.7V battery directly, and it will charge via the USB-C port when connected.
