Solid performance, minor docs gaps
The hardware performs flawlessly for video processing tasks. Some of the advanced RISC-V examples could use better documentation, but the community forums are very helpful.

Great value, steep learning curve
Hardware is solid and compact. If you are new to FPGAs, be prepared to spend time reading documentation. Once set up, the toolchain works well for basic logic design.

Excellent for Education
Bought this for my university embedded systems course. Students love the immediate visual feedback via HDMI. It handles VGA and HDMI switching without issues.

Best entry-level FPGA board
I've tried several boards in this category, and the Tang Nano 20K offers the best balance of resources and cost. The 20K logic elements allow for complex projects that smaller boards can't handle.

Compact powerhouse
Don't let the size fool you. This thing drives 1080p output smoothly while running a soft CPU core. Great for portable retro console builds.

Perfect for Retro Gaming Projects
This board is incredibly capable for its price. I successfully ported a GameBoy core to it, and the HDMI output is crisp. The RISC-V support makes it versatile for running lightweight Linux distributions too.
Q: Does it support running full desktop Linux?
A: It can run lightweight Linux distributions tailored for RISC-V soft cores, but due to memory constraints (32MB SDRAM), it is not suitable for heavy desktop environments. It is ideal for embedded Linux applications.
Q: Does this board come with a pre-installed operating system?
A: No, the board comes blank. You need to load your own bitstream or soft-core OS image using the USB Type-C connection and the Gowin Programmer software.
Q: Is the GPIO voltage 3.3V or 5V tolerant?
A: The GPIO pins operate at 3.3V logic levels. While some pins are 5V tolerant, we recommend using level shifters when connecting to 5V peripherals to ensure safety and stability.
Q: What software tools are required to program this FPGA?
A: You will need the Gowin EDA software suite, which is free to download from the manufacturer's website. It supports Windows and Linux environments.
