Ideal for industrial control prototypes
Used this for a quick prototype of a motor controller. The GPIO headers are standard and easy to connect to breakout boards. The stability during long-running tests was impressive for a development board in this price range.

Excellent cost-performance ratio
I needed a board with significant logic capacity but didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars. The Tang Mega 60K fits the bill perfectly. The DDR3 memory integration worked flawlessly in my first test design.

Best entry-level high-density FPGA
As a student transitioning from simulation to real hardware, this board was forgiving and powerful. The included examples cover basic IO, memory, and PWM, which accelerated my learning process significantly.

Great hardware, steep learning curve
The build quality is solid and the pinout is well labeled. However, if you are coming from Xilinx or Altera, the Gowin EDA software takes some getting used to. Once configured, it runs stable tests without issues.

Good community support

Perfect for National Innovation Projects
This board offers incredible value for the price. The 138K logic elements are more than enough for my university competition project. The documentation is clear, and the Type-C interface makes power and programming very convenient.
Q: Are there example projects available for the DDR3 memory?
A: Yes, the official GitHub repository contains several demo projects, including a specific example demonstrating how to initialize and read/write to the onboard 128MB DDR3 SDRAM.
Q: Can I power this board using an external 5V adapter instead of USB?
A: Absolutely. The board features a DC power jack that accepts 5V input. It automatically switches between USB and external power sources, though we recommend using a stable 2A supply for heavy logic loads.
Q: Is the Gowin EDA software free to use for this board?
A: Yes, Gowin provides a free version of their EDA Studio software which supports the GW5AST series fully, including synthesis, place-and-route, and programming.
