Good compatibility
Swapped this in for a project originally designed for the official board. Everything compiled and ran without modification. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the slightly different shade of green on the PCB, purely aesthetic though.

Perfect for learning embedded systems
This board is an excellent entry point into microcontrollers. The MicroPython support makes it incredibly easy to get started without dealing with complex C setups immediately. The dual-core performance is surprising for the price point.

Reliable and fast

Solid hardware, documentation could be better

Ideal for university projects
Bought five of these for our engineering capstone project. They are affordable enough to risk burning one out while learning, yet powerful enough for complex tasks like motor control and data logging.
Q: How much current can the 3.3V pin supply?
A: The on-board regulator can supply up to 300mA total for the board and external peripherals connected to the 3.3V pin. Please calculate your component usage carefully to avoid brownouts.
Q: Is this board compatible with the official Raspberry Pi Pico headers?
A: Yes, this board features the standard castellated hole layout and pinout, making it fully compatible with existing Pico headers and shields.
Q: What software do I need to install to program this?
A: You can use the Thonny IDE for MicroPython, which is very beginner-friendly. For C/C++ development, we recommend using the Raspberry Pi Pico SDK with Visual Studio Code or PlatformIO.
Q: Can I power this board directly from a 3.7V LiPo battery?
A: You can connect a LiPo battery to the VSYS pin, but please ensure you have appropriate protection circuitry as the input range is 1.8V to 5.5V. For direct charging capabilities, an external charger module is recommended.
Q: Does it support WiFi or Bluetooth out of the box?
A: No, the RP2040 chip on this board does not have built-in WiFi or Bluetooth. However, you can easily add these features using external modules like the ESP-01 or HC-05 via the GPIO pins.
