Solid Linux experience
Ubuntu runs very well on this. Boot times are quick and the Wi-Fi 6 connection is stable. Deducting one star because the heatsink is sold separately in some bundles.

Good but runs hot under load
Performance is great for learning embedded systems, but the board gets quite warm during stress tests. Definitely recommend buying an active cooling solution immediately.

Excellent performance for the price
The octa-core processor handles multitasking smoothly. I used it for a home media server and it runs Kodi without any lag. The build quality feels solid.

Perfect for computer vision projects
The dual MIPI CSI interfaces are a game changer for my robotics project. Running OpenCV on this board is surprisingly fast compared to older models.

Best upgrade from Pi 4
Switched from a standard Raspberry Pi 4 and the performance jump is noticeable. The PCIe lane support allows for faster SSD storage which speeds up compilation times significantly.

Great board, documentation needs work
Hardware is fantastic and very power efficient. However, finding specific pinout diagrams for some GPIO functions took longer than expected. Once set up, it works perfectly.
Q: What is the maximum resolution supported on dual displays?
A: It supports dual display output. You can run one 4K display at 60Hz via HDMI and a second 1080p display via DP or DSI simultaneously.
Q: Is there an onboard eMMC storage or do I need a SD card?
A: The board has a slot for an optional eMMC module, but it does not come with one pre-installed. You can boot directly from a MicroSD card out of the box.
Q: Can I power this directly from a laptop USB port?
A: While the USB-C port can accept power from a laptop, we strongly recommend using a dedicated 5V/3A power adapter to ensure stability during high-performance tasks.
Q: Does this board support Android OS?
A: Yes, the Orange Pi 4A supports Android 12 as well as various Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch Linux.
Q: Are the GPIO pins compatible with Raspberry Pi HATs?
A: The pin layout is similar to the Raspberry Pi 40-pin header, but voltage levels and specific pin functions may differ. Please check the schematic before connecting third-party HATs.
