Great hardware, steep learning curve
The hardware capabilities are impressive for the price point. Face recognition works well out of the box with the demo code. However, documentation could be more extensive for beginners not familiar with RISC-V architecture. Still, a solid purchase for hobbyists.

Good community support
As someone new to embedded AI, I found the online community very helpful. The board itself is robust and the camera module connection is secure. Deducting one star only because the initial driver installation on Windows took some troubleshooting.

Excellent value for computer vision projects
I've used several AI boards, and this offers the best bang for your buck. The KPU accelerates inference significantly compared to running models on the CPU alone. MicroPython support makes prototyping incredibly fast. Highly recommended for students.

Perfect bridge between Arduino and AI
This board is exactly what I needed to start learning edge AI. The K210 chip handles object detection smoothly, and the ESP32 integration makes IoT projects seamless. The Arduino-compatible form factor meant I could use my existing shields without modification.

Compact and powerful
Used this for a small line-following robot with obstacle avoidance using camera input. The dual-core processing allows me to run the AI model on one core while handling motor control on the other. No lag detected during operation.
Q: Is external power required if I connect many peripherals?
A: For basic usage, USB power is sufficient. However, if you are driving high-power peripherals like large servos, bright LED matrices, or multiple sensors, we recommend using the VIN pin to supply stable external 5V-9V power to avoid brownouts.
Q: Can I program this using the standard Arduino IDE?
A: While the pinout is Arduino-compatible, you cannot use the standard Arduino IDE directly for the K210 core. You should use the MaixPy IDE, VS Code with PlatformIO, or the Kendryte Standalone SDK for C++ development.
Q: Does it support TensorFlow Lite models?
A: The K210 uses its own proprietary KPU which requires models to be converted to the .kmodel format using the nncase toolchain. It does not natively run standard TensorFlow Lite (.tflite) files without significant conversion and optimization steps.
Q: What is the maximum resolution supported for video streaming?
A: The board can capture images up to the sensor's limit (typically 5MP), but for real-time AI inference and streaming over Wi-Fi via the ESP32, we recommend resolutions like 320x240 or 640x480 to maintain smooth frame rates.
Q: Does this board come with a camera module included?
A: No, the Maixduino GC0328 board is sold separately. You will need to purchase a compatible DVP camera module (such as the OV2640 or OV5640) separately to utilize the vision capabilities.
