Great but runs warm
Performance is excellent for running Home Assistant and Docker containers. Just make sure you invest in an active cooling solution as it gets hotter than previous models under load.

Emulation Beast
Handles N64 and Dreamcast emulation much better than previous models. The dual 4K output is also nice for connecting to modern TVs without upscaling issues.

Solid Board, pricey accessories
The board itself is fantastic and GPIO works as expected. Just be aware that you need to buy the power supply and cooling separately which adds to the total cost.

Significant Performance Boost
The speed difference from the Pi 4 is immediately noticeable. Boot times are faster and the PCIe support allows for much quicker storage options. Highly recommended for homelab setups.
Q: What operating system do you recommend for beginners?
A: We recommend the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) as it is optimized for the hardware and offers the best stability for new users.
Q: Does this board come with a power supply included?
A: No, the Raspberry Pi 5 requires a separate 5V/5A USB-C power supply which is sold individually to ensure you have the correct wattage for stable operation.
Q: Can I boot directly from an NVMe SSD?
A: Yes, you can boot from an NVMe SSD using the PCIe 2.0 interface, though you will need a compatible HAT or adapter to connect the drive.
Q: Is it compatible with Raspberry Pi 4 cases?
A: Generally no. The component layout has changed slightly, particularly the power connector and PCIe port, so a case designed specifically for Pi 5 is recommended.
Q: Does this support Power over Ethernet (PoE)?
A: Yes, but it requires the separate Raspberry Pi PoE+ HAT to enable Power over Ethernet functionality.
