Great quality, needs breaking in
The brush feels stiff at first, which is expected for wolf hair. After washing and using it a few times, it softened up nicely. The control it offers for leaf veins is outstanding.

Perfect for fine details
I bought this for my Gongbi practice and the tip is incredibly sharp. It holds ink well and allows for very consistent thin lines without splitting. Highly recommended for beginners.

Good for small formats
Works beautifully on smaller rice paper sheets. The handle is lightweight and balanced. I deducted one star only because the ferrule loosened slightly after heavy use, but easy to fix.

Best brush for the price
As someone new to traditional Chinese painting, I was worried about spending too much. This brush performs like a professional tool but is affordable. The rat whisker hair is very resilient.

Excellent snap back
The springiness of this brush is fantastic. Even after pressing down for thicker strokes, it returns immediately to a fine point. Essential for detailed bird feather work.
Q: Does this brush come pre-sized with glue or ready to use?
A: The brush comes with a protective sizing glue on the tip. You should soak it in lukewarm water for a few minutes to dissolve the glue before your first use, then rinse gently.
Q: How do I clean and store this wolf hair brush?
A: Rinse thoroughly with clean water after every use until the water runs clear. Reshape the tip and let it air dry horizontally or hang with the tip facing down. Avoid leaving it soaking in water.
Q: What size options are available for this specific model?
A: This listing includes various sizes ranging from extra-fine (for whiskers) to medium (for leaf outlines). Please select your preferred size from the dropdown menu before adding to cart.
Q: Can this brush handle acrylic paints?
A: We recommend using this brush primarily with traditional Chinese ink and watercolors. Acrylics can damage the natural hair if they dry inside the ferrule, reducing the brush's lifespan significantly.
Q: Is this suitable for sumi-e ink wash painting or just Gongbi?
A: While optimized for Gongbi line drawing due to its stiffness and fine tip, it can be used for small-scale Sumi-e details. However, for large washes, a softer goat hair brush is recommended.
