Excellent for running script
As someone who practices running script daily, finding semi-raw paper that balances absorption and control is hard. This Hongyou paper hits the sweet spot. The micro-jet technology really makes a difference in how crisp the strokes look.

Helpful grids for beginners

Perfect texture for small script
The wax-dye treatment on this paper is excellent. It prevents the ink from spreading too much, making it ideal for small regular script. The vertical lines are faint but visible enough to guide my writing without distracting from the final piece.

Great quality, slightly pricey
I love the ancient aesthetic of this paper. The color is warm and inviting. It handles wet ink very well without tearing. My only critique is that it is a bit more expensive than standard practice paper, but the quality justifies the cost for special projects.

Beautiful finish
The elegant note style gives my letters a very professional and traditional look. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the pack size is a bit small for heavy practitioners, but the quality is undeniable.

Q: Is this paper suitable for water-based ink or only oil-based?
A: This semi-raw Xuan paper is specifically designed for traditional water-based Chinese calligraphy ink. It offers controlled absorption perfect for brush writing.
Q: Do the grid lines disappear if I frame the artwork?
A: The grid lines are printed in a very light tone using the wax-dye method. They are subtle enough that they generally do not distract from the artwork in a frame, especially from a viewing distance.
