Solid performer
Very happy with this purchase. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that I wish they came in a wider variety of sizes in a single pack, but the individual quality is top-notch.

Excellent spring and snap
The snap on these brushes is fantastic. They respond immediately to pressure changes, allowing for both broad washes and finer detailing along the edge of the flat brush.

Great value for imported quality
I was skeptical about the price point, but the build quality rivals much more expensive brands. The ferrule is tight, and no bristles have shed so far after a month of daily use.

Smooth oil painting experience
The bristles are firm enough to move oil paint around the canvas without being too stiff. They clean up easily with mineral spirits and return to their original flat shape.

My new go-to for blocking in
I use these primarily for the initial blocking stages of my paintings. The coverage is excellent, and the handle length provides good leverage for broader strokes.

Perfect for thick acrylics
These brushes hold their shape incredibly well even when loaded with heavy body acrylics. The white bristles make it easy to see color mixing, and the flat edge gives crisp lines.
Q: Do the white bristles stain easily with dark colors?
A: The white synthetic bristles may retain some tint from very dark pigments like Phthalo Blue or Alizarin Crimson, but this is cosmetic and does not affect performance. Thorough cleaning usually removes most staining.
Q: How do I clean these brushes after using oil paint?
A: For oil paints, wipe off excess paint with a rag, then rinse the bristles in an appropriate solvent like odorless mineral spirits. Follow up with warm soapy water to remove any residual solvent, reshape the flat edge, and let dry horizontally.
Q: Is the handle ergonomic for long painting sessions?
A: Yes, the Series 830 features a smooth, polished wooden handle with a balanced weight distribution designed to reduce hand fatigue during extended painting sessions.
Q: Are these brushes suitable for watercolor techniques?
A: While primarily designed for oil and acrylics due to the firmness of the white bristles, they can be used for watercolor if you prefer a stiffer brush for lifting or scrubbing techniques. However, soft natural hair brushes are generally recommended for traditional watercolor washing.
Q: What sizes are available in the Series 830?
A: The HwaHong Series 830 Flat Brushes are typically available in sizes ranging from 2mm up to 25mm. Please check the specific size selector on the product page to see current stock availability.
