Good balance, needed minor adjustment
The bow arrived well-packaged. The balance feels right in the hand, and the ebony frog looks elegant. I had to tighten the hair slightly more than expected out of the box, but once adjusted, it plays smoothly across all strings. A solid choice for intermediate students.

Perfect for my daughter's first year
My daughter just started violin lessons, and her teacher recommended a real horsehair bow instead of the synthetic one that came with her rental kit. The difference in sound quality is immediate. It produces a warm tone and responds well to light pressure. Great value for a student bow.

Decent but hair sheds initially
The bow itself is beautiful and lightweight. However, I noticed quite a bit of horsehair shedding during the first week of use. This seems to have stopped now, and the bow plays nicely, but beginners might be alarmed by the loose hairs at first. Just keep a small brush handy.

Excellent exam preparation tool
I bought this for my Grade 3 exam preparation. The consistency of the horsehair allows for very controlled spiccato and legato strokes. My instructor was impressed with the clarity of sound I achieved during our last lesson. Highly recommend for serious students on a budget.

Beautiful craftsmanship
As an adult learner returning to the violin after 20 years, I wanted something better than a cheap starter bow without spending a fortune. This handmade bow exceeded my expectations. The silver winding is secure, and the stick has a nice flexibility that helps produce a rich tone.

Great upgrade from carbon fiber
Switched from a carbon fiber bow to this horsehair model for a more traditional feel. The grip is comfortable, and the weight distribution helps with long practice sessions. Took off one star only because the case it comes in is quite basic, but the bow itself is fantastic.
Q: How do I know when to rehair this bow?
A: Generally, bows should be rehaired every 6 to 12 months depending on usage. Signs that rehairing is needed include excessive hair loss, inability to hold rosin, or if the hair has become stretched and cannot be tightened sufficiently to play near the frog.
Q: Is this bow suitable for a 1/2 size violin?
A: This is a full-size (4/4) bow designed for adult and older student instruments. Using a full-size bow on a 1/2 size violin would make it difficult to control and could damage the instrument. Please select a bow specifically sized for 1/2 violins if that is what you need.
Q: What is the return policy if the stick is warped?
A: We inspect all bows before shipping, but natural wood can sometimes react to extreme humidity changes during transit. If you receive a bow with a visible warp or defect, please contact us within 30 days for a free replacement or full refund. Please include photos of the issue.
Q: Can I use this bow for viola as well?
A: While physically possible, we do not recommend it. Violin bows are lighter and have a different balance point compared to viola bows. Using a violin bow on a viola may limit your tonal range and make lower string projection difficult. It is best to use a bow sized specifically for the viola.
Q: Does this bow come pre-rosinated?
A: No, the bow arrives with fresh, unrosined horsehair to ensure maximum longevity and performance. You will need to apply your own rosin before playing. We recommend using a high-quality cake rosin suitable for your instrument size.
