Perfect upgrade from my old bow
The difference in sound quality compared to my carbon fiber bow is night and day. The wood vibrates nicely, adding complexity to the lower registers. Shipping was fast and packaging was secure.

Superior projection
As a jazz bassist, I need a bow that can cut through a rhythm section. This stick provides excellent projection without sounding harsh. The ebony frog is beautifully finished too.

Excellent balance for orchestral playing
I purchased the French style bow for my symphony work, and the balance is incredible. It responds quickly to spiccato passages and produces a warm, rich tone on my 4/4 bass. Highly recommended for serious players.

Great value for students
Bought this for my daughter who is just starting upright bass. The German style feels sturdy in her hand, and the horsehair holds rosin well. The only reason for 4 stars is that the case latch was a bit stiff initially.

Beautiful craftsmanship
Not only does it play wonderfully, but it is also a beautiful object. The inlay work on the frog is precise, and the stick has a lovely grain. A fantastic addition to my studio gear.

Good weight distribution
I switched from German to French style with this purchase. It took a day to adjust, but now I love the control it offers for delicate phrasing. The hair quality seems very durable so far.
Q: Can I use this bow on a 1/2 size double bass?
A: This bow is specifically designed and balanced for 4/4 and 3/4 size upright basses. Using it on a 1/2 size instrument may feel too heavy and could affect playability. We recommend checking our youth series for smaller sizes.
Q: Is the stick made of real Pernambuco wood or composite?
A: Our premium line features sticks made from genuine Pernambuco wood, known for its density and acoustic properties. We also offer a carbon fiber alternative in a different listing if you prefer a more durable, weather-resistant option.
Q: How often should I rehair this bow?
A: For regular players, we recommend rehairing every 6 to 12 months, or when the hair becomes thin, loses its grip, or breaks frequently. Proper cleaning and rosin application can extend the life of the hair between rehairs.
Q: Does the bow come pre-rosined?
A: The bow comes with a block of rosin included in the case, but the horsehair is not pre-rosined. You will need to apply rosin to the hair before your first use to generate friction and sound.
Q: What is the difference between the German and French styles offered?
A: The German (Butler) style has a wider frog and is held with the palm facing up, offering more power for orchestral playing. The French (Overhand) style has a narrower frog, is held like a cello bow with the palm facing down, and allows for greater agility and nuanced articulation.
