Good accuracy, needs warm-up time
Works well for detecting formaldehyde levels in our testing chamber. Just remember to let it run for at least 3 minutes before taking readings, as the electrochemical cell needs to stabilize. Documentation could be slightly more detailed.

Easy to parse data
The protocol is straightforward. I had it reading values in Python within 10 minutes of unboxing. The sensor seems sensitive enough to detect changes when opening a new furniture box nearby.

Reliable and compact
Small footprint fits perfectly into my custom housing. The voltage requirements are standard 5V, which simplifies power supply design. No issues with noise on the serial line so far.
Q: Is there a library available for Arduino?
A: We do not provide an official proprietary library, but the simple UART protocol allows you to read the data using the standard HardwareSerial or SoftwareSerial libraries included in the Arduino IDE. Example code is available in the product manual download section.
Q: What is the baud rate for the UART communication?
A: The default baud rate is 9600 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit. This is fixed and cannot be changed via software commands.
Q: Does this module require an external pull-up resistor for the TX line?
A: No, the Zave ZE08-CH2O has an internal pull-up on the TX line. You can connect it directly to your microcontroller's RX pin.
Q: How do I know when the sensor has finished its warm-up cycle?
A: During warm-up, the output values will fluctuate significantly. Once the readings stabilize and remain consistent for about 30 seconds in clean air, the sensor is ready. Typically, this takes 2 to 3 minutes after power-on.
Q: Can this sensor detect other VOCs like benzene?
A: This specific electrochemical cell is tuned primarily for Formaldehyde (CH2O). While it may show some cross-sensitivity to other strong oxidizing gases, it is not calibrated or recommended for quantifying benzene or general TVOC.
