Good value, precise detection
I bought two of these for a differential drive robot. The infrared beam is strong and the slot size is perfect for standard encoder disks. One star off because the mounting holes are slightly tight, but overall great quality.

Works as described
The sensor detects interruptions in the beam instantly. I used it to measure the RPM of a DC motor and the data was consistent. Just ensure your power supply is stable for best results.

Perfect for my robotics project

Excellent precision
Better than expected for the price. The through-beam design ensures that dust or ambient light doesn't interfere with the readings. My smart car now navigates corners much smoother thanks to accurate speed feedback.
Q: Can this sensor work directly with a 3.3V microcontroller like ESP32?
A: Yes, the module operates within a 3.3V to 5V range, making it fully compatible with ESP32, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi GPIO pins without needing level shifters.
Q: How do I connect this to count pulses?
A: Connect VCC to power, GND to ground, and the OUT pin to a digital interrupt pin on your microcontroller. You can then use a pulse counting library or interrupt service routine to tally the rotations.
Q: What is the maximum width of the object that can pass through the slot?
A: The slot width is approximately 5mm. Any opaque object thinner than 5mm that can interrupt the infrared beam will be detected effectively.
Q: Does this come with a pre-slit encoder disk?
A: No, this package includes only the photoelectric sensor module. You will need to provide your own encoder disk or slotted wheel to attach to your motor shaft.
Q: Is the output active high or active low when the beam is blocked?
