Perfect for my conveyor project
These sensors work flawlessly. The 8mm slot is exactly what I needed for counting small parts on my mini conveyor belt. Response time is incredibly fast.

Good value, easy to solder
Solid build quality and the pins are well-spaced for standard PCBs. Only giving 4 stars because the datasheet could be more detailed regarding ambient light immunity.

Great for university robotics
Used this for our final year robot obstacle detection system. It's much more reliable than ultrasonic sensors for close-range detection.

Excellent sensitivity
The detection threshold is very sharp. Objects break the beam instantly, making it ideal for high-speed counting applications.
Q: What is the current consumption when the beam is unbroken?
A: The forward current for the LED emitter is typically around 20mA to 50mA depending on your series resistor choice. The phototransistor side consumes negligible current when off.
Q: What is the maximum distance the object can be from the sensor to be detected?
A: Since this is a slot-type (through-beam) sensor, the object must pass through the 8mm gap between the emitter and receiver. It cannot detect objects outside this slot.
Q: Can this sensor operate directly with a 3.3V microcontroller like an ESP32?
A: Yes, the ITR-9608 operates within the 5V to 24V range, but the output is open-collector. You will need a pull-up resistor to 3.3V to interface safely with your ESP32 GPIO pins.
Q: Does the package include mounting screws?
A: No, the package contains only the photoelectric switch sensors. Mounting is typically done by soldering the leads directly to a PCB or using custom brackets designed for the housing shape.
Q: Is this sensor suitable for outdoor use in direct sunlight?
A: While the operating temperature range is wide, direct sunlight contains strong infrared radiation which may interfere with the signal. We recommend shielding the sensor or using a modulated IR source for outdoor applications.
