Good value, requires patience

The sensor works well once warmed up. Just remember the datasheet advice about letting it preheat for a day or two before relying on accurate readings. Great price for the functionality.

Perfect for my home safety project

Solid performance

Q: What is the maximum current consumption?

A: The heating element typically draws around 150mA to 200mA at 5V. Please ensure your power supply can handle this load, especially if connecting multiple sensors.

Q: Is the PCB coated for protection against dust?

A: The board has a basic conformal coating, but for harsh industrial environments, we recommend placing the module inside a breathable enclosure to protect the circuitry while allowing gas to reach the sensor.

Q: Does this module work with 3.3V microcontrollers like the ESP8266?

A: Yes, but please note that the heater requires 5V. The signal output is generally compatible, but for the digital output, we recommend using a voltage divider or level shifter to ensure safe logic levels for 3.3V boards.

Q: Can this detect carbon monoxide (CO)?

A: No, the MQ-5 is specifically designed for LPG, Natural Gas, and City Gas. For Carbon Monoxide detection, please look at our MQ-7 sensor module.

Q: How long does it take for the sensor to stabilize?

A: While the sensor will respond immediately to gas, for accurate baseline readings and stability, we recommend powering the module continuously for 24 to 48 hours before calibration.
