Perfect for Arduino Projects

Robust fault detection
The built-in fault detection is a lifesaver. It immediately flags when the RTD wire gets disconnected, which prevents my control system from reading erroneous low temperatures. Very reliable module.

Works but documentation could be better
The hardware itself seems solid, but I struggled a bit with the register configuration for 4-wire vs 3-wire setups. Once I found a forum post explaining the bias resistor settings, it worked fine.

Great accuracy, needs careful wiring
The sensor is very accurate once set up correctly. I had some noise issues initially because my SPI wires were too long, but after shortening them and adding a capacitor, it works perfectly. Good value for the price.
Q: Does the package include the PT100 probe?
A: No, this listing is for the detector module only. The PT100 or PT1000 resistance temperature detector probe must be purchased separately.
Q: What is the maximum update rate for temperature readings?
A: The conversion time is typically 60ms. You can read new data approximately every 60-70ms depending on your SPI clock speed and processor overhead.
Q: Does this module support 2-wire PT100 sensors?
A: Yes, it supports 2, 3, and 4-wire configurations. For 2-wire setups, you will need to bridge the appropriate terminals on the screw block as indicated in the datasheet.
Q: Is a separate power supply required for the RTD sensor?
A: No, the MAX31865 provides the necessary excitation current for the RTD directly from the module. You only need to power the module itself with 3.3V.
Q: Can I use this with a 5V microcontroller like standard Arduino?
A: The module operates at 3.3V logic. While it can be powered by 5V VIN on some boards, the SPI pins require 3.3V levels. We recommend using a level shifter if your MCU is strictly 5V logic to avoid damage.
