Good value, minor soldering needed
The performance is solid for sensor applications. I had to solder my own header pins as they weren't pre-attached, but that's standard for this type of module. Very sensitive pickup.

Decent but sensitive to power noise
The module itself is fine, but it picked up some electrical noise from my breadboard power rail. Once I moved it to a clean regulated supply, the output was much cleaner.

Works as described
Easy to integrate into my Raspberry Pi setup. The voltage range is flexible which helped when powering it from a 3.3V pin. Just ensure you have a decent power supply to avoid hum.

Perfect for Arduino Voice Projects
This module works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The sound quality is surprisingly clear for the price point, and the automatic gain control handles varying voice volumes well without clipping.

Excellent Signal Clarity
Used this for a home automation voice trigger. The noise floor is very low, and it picks up speech clearly from about 3 meters away. Highly recommended for DIY audio sensors.

Best budget mic amp
I've tested several modules in this category, and the MAX9814 chip consistently outperforms competitors in dynamic range. Great for prototyping voice interfaces.
Q: Does this module come with the microphone capsule included?
A: Yes, the module includes an integrated electret microphone capsule ready for use.
Q: Can I run this directly off a 3.3V ESP32 pin?
A: Absolutely. The operating voltage range is 2.7V to 5.5V, so it is fully compatible with 3.3V logic and power systems like the ESP32.
Q: What is the distance range for clear voice capture?
A: For clear voice recognition, it typically performs best within 1 to 3 meters in a quiet indoor environment, depending on your specific gain settings and ambient noise.
Q: Is the output digital or analog?
A: The output is analog. You will need to connect it to an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) pin on your microcontroller to process the signal digitally.
Q: How do I adjust the gain if 40dB is too loud?
A: The gain is set by an external resistor on the board. You can replace the default resistor with one of a different value according to the MAX9814 datasheet to lower or increase the gain.
