Good for learning
Used this for my final year university project. It picked up voice commands accurately from about 3 meters away. Documentation online is plentiful which helped a lot.

Compact and powerful
The form factor is tiny but the output is strong enough to drive an ADC directly without extra pre-amping. Definitely buying more for our workshop kits.

Low noise floor
Impressed by the low noise floor on the 60dB setting. I used this for a sound level meter project and the readings were consistent and stable.

Great value, easy to wire
Very easy to integrate into my home automation system. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the soldering pads are a bit small for beginners, but otherwise excellent performance.

Perfect for Arduino Voice Projects
This module works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The gain selection jumpers make it very versatile for different environments. Sound quality is crisp and clear for a sensor of this size.
Q: Does this come with a microphone included or just the amplifier board?
A: This module comes with a high-quality electret condenser microphone already soldered onto the board, ready to use out of the box.
Q: How do I change the gain from 40dB to 60dB?
A: There are two solder jumpers on the back of the PCB labeled GAIN. By bridging specific pads according to the silkscreen diagram, you can select 40dB, 50dB, or 60dB. Please refer to the product datasheet for the exact jumper configuration.
Q: Can this module be powered directly by a 3.3V pin on an ESP32?
A: Yes, the MAX9814 operates within a voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, so it is fully compatible with 3.3V logic and power supplies like those found on the ESP32.
Q: What is the maximum distance this mic can effectively pick up normal speech?
A: For normal speech levels, the module performs well up to approximately 3 to 5 meters depending on ambient noise and the gain setting selected. For best results, we recommend testing in your specific environment.
Q: Is the output signal digital or analog?
A: The output is an analog audio signal. You will need to connect the OUT pin to an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) pin on your microcontroller to process the data.
