Perfect for wearable prototypes
This module works flawlessly with my ESP32 project. The I2C communication is stable, and the library support is excellent. Readings are consistent when the finger is placed correctly.

Easy to integrate
Plug and play with Arduino. The breakout board layout is logical, and the soldering pads are large enough for easy connection. Highly recommended for students.

Good value but needs calibration
Great hardware for the price. You do need to spend time calibrating the LED intensity for accurate SpO2 readings, but once set up, it performs well for educational purposes.

Sensitive to ambient light
The sensor works, but you must shield it from external light sources or the readings go haywire. Once I covered it with black tape, the data became much more reliable.

Solid sensor for DIY projects
Works as advertised. Note that this is a development module, not a certified medical device, so don't use it for critical health monitoring. Great for learning signal processing though.

Excellent documentation support
Found plenty of example code online to get started quickly. The sensor responds rapidly to changes in heart rate during exercise simulations.
Q: Does this module come with a library for Arduino?
A: Yes, there are several open-source libraries available on GitHub, such as SparkFun MAX3010x Pulse and Proximity Sensor Library, which work perfectly with this module.
Q: Can this measure blood oxygen accurately without a strap?
A: For accurate readings, the sensor requires consistent contact with the skin. While a strap isn't strictly mandatory, holding it steady by hand often introduces noise. We recommend mounting it on a wristband for best results.
Q: What is the maximum distance for detection?
A: This is a reflectance-based sensor designed for direct skin contact (0mm distance). It is not suitable for non-contact measurement at a distance.
Q: How do I clean the sensor surface?
A: Gently wipe the LED and photodetector area with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Ensure it is completely dry before powering it on again.
Q: Is this compatible with 5V logic microcontrollers?
A: The MAX30102 chip operates at 1.8V to 3.3V. If your microcontroller uses 5V logic, you must use a logic level converter to avoid damaging the sensor.
