Good value, requires calibration
The hardware quality is solid. Note that getting accurate SpO2 readings requires careful calibration and consistent finger placement. The built-in MCU helps smooth out some noise. Recommended for hobbyists.

Perfect for wearable prototypes
This module works exactly as described. The I2C connection was stable with my Arduino, and the included PC software made visualizing the raw data very easy. Great for learning about PPG signals.

Excellent documentation support
I was worried about setting up the PC software, but the instructions were clear. The data reading speed is impressive, and the signal clarity is better than other cheap modules I have tried.

Great starter kit component

Reliable sensor for projects
Used this for a university project on health monitoring. The FIFO buffer prevents data loss during high-speed sampling. Very happy with the purchase and the fast shipping.

Works well with Raspberry Pi
Connected easily to my Raspberry Pi 4. The voltage levels are compatible without needing extra shifters. The only downside is the cable length could be slightly longer for bench testing.
Q: What is the maximum sampling rate supported?
A: The module supports sampling rates up to 3200Hz depending on the configuration of the FIFO and LED pulse width settings in your code.
Q: Is a separate driver required for the built-in MCU?
A: No separate driver is needed. The built-in MCU is pre-configured to manage the sensor operations, and you interact with it via standard I2C commands using available libraries.
Q: Does this module work directly with 5V Arduino boards?
A: Yes, the module supports an operating voltage range of 3.3V to 5V, making it fully compatible with standard 5V Arduino boards without additional level shifters.
Q: Can this measure blood pressure?
A: No, the MAX30102 sensor is designed specifically for heart rate (pulse) and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurements. It does not have the capability to measure blood pressure.
Q: Is the PC software compatible with macOS?
A: The current version of the included PC software is designed for Windows. However, the sensor uses standard I2C protocols, so you can write custom scripts for macOS using Python or C++.
