Reliable heart rate monitoring
Used this to build a custom fitness tracker. The heart rate accuracy is surprisingly good when the sensor maintains good contact with the skin. Highly recommend for DIY health projects.

Good sensor, needs calibration
The hardware quality is solid. However, getting accurate SpO2 readings requires careful calibration and shielding from ambient light. Once set up correctly, the pulse detection is quite responsive.

Perfect for wearable prototypes
These modules work flawlessly with my ESP32 project. The I2C communication is stable, and the library support for Arduino makes getting started very easy. Great value for the price.

Great learning tool
As a beginner, this was a bit challenging to wire up initially, but once I understood the pull-up resistor requirements for I2C, it worked perfectly. A great way to learn about biometric sensors.

Compact and efficient
The small form factor fits easily into my wristband design. Power consumption is low enough for battery-operated devices. The interrupt feature saves a lot of processing power.

Excellent documentation support
I was worried about the integration complexity, but the datasheet and community examples made it simple. The FIFO buffer helps manage data flow efficiently without losing samples.
Q: How do I reduce noise from ambient light affecting the readings?
A: For best results, ensure the sensor is pressed firmly against the skin to block external light. You can also enable the ambient light cancellation feature in the sensor's configuration registers via software.
Q: Does this module come with the necessary pull-up resistors for I2C?
A: Yes, the breakout board includes integrated 4.7kΩ pull-up resistors on the SDA and SCL lines, so you can connect it directly to your microcontroller.
Q: Can this sensor measure blood pressure?
A: No, the MAX30102 module is designed to measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2). It does not have the capability to measure blood pressure.
Q: What is the maximum distance the sensor can read from?
A: This is a reflectance-based sensor, meaning it must be in direct contact or very close proximity (less than 5mm) to the skin to function. It cannot read from a distance.
Q: Is a 5V Arduino Uno compatible with this 3.3V sensor?
A: Yes, the module features an onboard voltage regulator and level shifting, making it safe to use with both 3.3V and 5V logic microcontrollers like the Arduino Uno.
