Fast and Reliable
Impressed by the sub-second response time. It's ideal for applications where you need rapid temperature checks without physical contact. Very stable output.

Excellent for student projects
Our students used these for a fever screening robot demo. The non-contact feature worked perfectly, and the digital output made coding straightforward.

Great value for the price
We bought ten of these for a prototype batch. All units performed consistently. The form factor is compact enough to fit into tight enclosures.

Perfect for DIY Health Projects
Integrated this sensor into a custom home monitoring station. The readings are consistent and match our medical-grade thermometer within 0.1 degrees. Easy to interface with Arduino.

Good precision, needs calibration
The module works well out of the box, but I recommend running a few calibration cycles for your specific environment to get the highest accuracy. Documentation could be slightly better.

Works as described
Using it for a smart thermostat project. It detects presence and temperature accurately. Just ensure you have a stable 3.3V power source to avoid noise in readings.
Q: How do I handle emissivity settings for different skin tones?
A: The 90614 is factory-calibrated for human skin emissivity (approx 0.98) across all skin tones. No manual adjustment is typically required for biological measurements.
Q: Does this module come with a lens cap or protective cover?
A: The module ships with a standard protective film on the lens. A hard plastic cap is not included but can be easily 3D printed using the dimensions provided in the datasheet.
Q: Can this be used for measuring surface temperatures of objects other than humans?
A: While optimized for the human body range (32-42.5°C), it can detect general surface temperatures within that limit. For industrial high-heat applications, a different sensor model is recommended.
Q: Is this compatible with Raspberry Pi GPIO pins directly?
A: Yes, it is compatible. However, since the module operates at 3.3V logic, ensure your Pi is set to 3.3V mode. Do not connect to 5V pins to prevent damage.
Q: What is the maximum distance for accurate body temperature measurement?
A: With an 8:1 distance-to-spot ratio, for a target area of roughly 2cm (forehead), the optimal distance is approximately 15-16cm. Accuracy decreases beyond this range.
