Perfect for Arduino projects
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The sensitivity adjustment potentiometers are very responsive, allowing me to fine-tune the detection range for my hallway light project. Great value for the price.

Good sensitivity but needs calibration
The module detects motion reliably once you spend some time calibrating the two dials. Initially, it was triggering too often, but after adjusting the delay and sensitivity, it works great for my security prototype.

Reliable and consistent
Bought five of these for a robotics class. All units performed consistently with similar detection ranges. The retriggerable mode is excellent for keeping lights on while movement is continuous.

Works well but warm-up time needed
The sensor functions as described, but you must wait about a minute after powering it up for it to stabilize. If you try to test it immediately, it might give false triggers. Just be patient.

Easy to use for beginners
I am new to electronics, and this module made my first motion-sensing lamp very easy to build. The pinout is clearly marked, and there are plenty of tutorials online. Highly recommended for starters.

Best PIR sensor in this price range
I have tried several different PIR modules, and the HC-SR501 offers the best balance of adjustability and reliability. The PCB quality is solid, and the soldering points are easy to work with.
Q: What is the maximum current this module can switch directly?
A: This module outputs a logic signal (3.3V) and cannot drive high-power loads directly. You should use a relay or a transistor/MOSFET to control devices like lamps or motors.
Q: Does this come with the Fresnel lens dome attached?
A: Yes, the module comes pre-assembled with the white Fresnel lens dome installed. It is removable if you need to access the sensor element underneath.
Q: Is this compatible with 5V Raspberry Pi GPIO pins?
A: Yes, the output high level is approximately 3.3V, which is safe for Raspberry Pi GPIO input pins. Ensure you connect the VCC to the 5V pin on the Pi.
Q: How do I switch between L and H trigger modes?
A: There is a jumper cap on the PCB labeled 'H' and 'L'. Place the jumper on 'H' for retriggerable mode (output stays high while motion continues) or 'L' for non-retriggerable mode.
Q: Can this sensor detect motion through glass or thin plastic?
A: No, infrared radiation cannot pass through glass. The sensor lens must have a direct line of sight to the moving object. Thin plastic may reduce sensitivity significantly.
