Perfect for DIY thermal projects
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The library support is excellent, and the temperature readings are surprisingly accurate for the price point. Great for detecting heat leaks in my home office.

Good resolution for the cost
While 8x8 isn't high definition, it is sufficient for basic motion detection and hotspot identification. Setup was easy using the Adafruit library. Just ensure your I2C pull-up resistors are correct.

Great educational tool
Bought this for a university project on thermal imaging. The data output is clean and easy to visualize on a PC. Highly recommend for students learning about IR sensors.

Exceeded expectations
I used this to build a simple night vision camera for my robot. The refresh rate is smooth enough at 10Hz. It handles ambient temperature changes well after a short calibration period.

Solid performance
Integration with Raspberry Pi was straightforward. The sensor gets slightly warm during operation, which is normal, but make sure to account for self-heating in precise applications.

Works but needs calibration
The module functions as described, but I had to write custom code to offset the temperature readings by about 1.5 degrees to match my infrared thermometer. Once calibrated, it is very stable.
Q: Does this module come with a lens or just the raw sensor?
A: This module includes the standard integrated lens that provides the 60-degree field of view. It is ready to use out of the box.
Q: Can this sensor detect humans in complete darkness?
A: Yes, since it detects infrared radiation (heat) emitted by objects, it does not require any visible light to function and can detect humans in total darkness.
Q: Are sample codes available for ESP32?
A: Yes, you can find compatible libraries and example sketches for the ESP32 on GitHub and within the Arduino IDE library manager under 'AMG88xx'.
Q: Is a logic level converter needed for 5V Arduinos?
A: Most GY-AMG8833 breakout boards include onboard voltage regulation and level shifting, making them safe to connect directly to 5V microcontrollers like the Arduino Uno. Please check your specific board schematic to be sure.
Q: What is the maximum distance this can effectively measure?
A: Due to the low 8x8 resolution, effective detailed measurement is best within 1 to 3 meters. Beyond that, it can still detect large heat sources but with less spatial detail.
