Excellent precision for the price
I was surprised by how linear the output voltage is between 5cm and 12cm. It made writing the conversion code very straightforward. Highly recommend for anyone needing short-range detection.

Good value but needs calibration
Solid build quality and fast shipping. You do need to calibrate the voltage readings against distance for your specific application, but the datasheet provides good graphs to help. Works well indoors.

Easy to integrate
As a beginner, I found this very easy to hook up. There are plenty of tutorials online for this specific module. Just remember it needs 5V power, not 3.3V, to work correctly.

Sensitive to ambient light
The sensor works great in controlled lighting, but I noticed some noise in the output when used near bright windows. Adding a simple shield around the sensor solved the issue. Good product overall.

Reliable for educational kits

Perfect for small robotics projects
This sensor works exactly as described. The analog output is smooth and easy to read with an Arduino Uno. I used it for a line-following robot and the 15cm range is ideal for obstacle avoidance.
Q: What is the minimum detection distance?
A: While the spec sheet lists 4cm to 15cm, reliable detection often starts around 5cm. Below 4cm, the output voltage may become non-linear or saturate.
Q: Is the output compatible with 3.3V microcontrollers like ESP32?
A: Yes, the analog output voltage scales with distance and usually stays within 0-3.3V for most distances. However, the sensor itself must be powered by 4.5V-5.5V. You can safely read the signal pin with a 3.3V MCU.
Q: How do I convert the analog reading to centimeters?
A: You will need to create a lookup table or use a polynomial equation based on the voltage-distance graph in the datasheet, as the relationship is not perfectly linear across the entire range.
Q: Can this sensor detect black objects effectively?
A: Infrared sensors rely on reflection, so very dark or black objects may absorb the IR light and result in weaker readings. It works best on lighter surfaces, but can still detect black objects at closer ranges.
Q: Does this come with connecting wires?
A: The module typically comes with a pre-crimped JST PH connector on the board, but loose mating cables are usually sold separately. Please check the package contents list before ordering.
