Good value but needs calibration
Solid build quality and the included wires are a nice touch. You do need to calibrate it for your specific environment to get precise readings, but once set up, it performs well.

Perfect for robotics projects
This sensor works exactly as described. The range is consistent between 20cm and 150cm, making it ideal for my line-following robot. The analog output is smooth and easy to read with an Arduino.

Reliable distance measurement
I've used several IR sensors, and this Sharp model is one of the most reliable. It handles ambient light changes better than cheaper alternatives. Highly recommended for hobbyists.

Compact and efficient
Small footprint makes it easy to mount on tight chassis. Power consumption is low enough for battery-operated projects. Would buy again.

Works but sensitive to surface color
The sensor functions correctly, but be aware that dark surfaces reflect less IR, which can skew readings. It's not a fault of the product, just a limitation of IR technology to keep in mind.

Great for student projects
Bought five of these for our university lab. They are durable and provide consistent data for our obstacle avoidance algorithms. The wiring harness saves a lot of time.
Q: What is the update rate of the sensor?
A: The typical response time is approximately 39ms, allowing for roughly 25 readings per second, which is sufficient for most real-time applications.
Q: Does the package include a mounting bracket?
A: No, the package includes the sensor module and connecting wires only. Mounting brackets are sold separately or can be 3D printed using available STL files online.
Q: Can this sensor work outdoors in sunlight?
A: While it can function outdoors, direct strong sunlight may interfere with the infrared signal. We recommend shielding the sensor or using it in shaded areas for best results.
Q: How do I connect the wires?
A: The connector is keyed to prevent reverse polarity. Typically, Pin 1 is VCC (Red), Pin 2 is Output (White/Yellow), and Pin 3 is GND (Black). Please check the datasheet for your specific batch.
Q: Is this compatible with Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, it is compatible. Since the output is analog, you will need an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) like the MCP3008 to interface it with a Raspberry Pi.
