Works at 24V as advertised
Tested this with a 24V PLC input and it switched cleanly. The NPN output is exactly what I needed for my industrial control learning kit.

Best budget sensor

Good sensitivity, needs calibration
The module is very sensitive to ambient light initially, but once you tune the potentiometer in your specific environment, it works great for obstacle avoidance.

Solid performance
Does exactly what it says. The infrared beam is invisible which is nice for aesthetic projects. Only minor issue is the wire length could be slightly longer.

Perfect for my Arduino robot
This sensor works flawlessly with my 5V Arduino setup. The detection range is easily adjustable with the potentiometer on the back. Great value for the price.

Reliable and compact
I bought five of these for a line-following car project. All of them performed consistently. The M3 mounting holes make installation very easy.
Q: What is the maximum current this sensor can sink?
A: The NPN output can typically sink up to 100mA. However, for driving heavy loads like motors or relays, please use an external transistor or relay module.
Q: Is the output signal 3.3V compatible?
A: The module operates on 5V-24V. If you power it with 5V, the output high level will be near 5V. For 3.3V microcontrollers, we recommend using a voltage divider or a logic level converter on the signal line to be safe.
Q: Does sunlight interfere with the operation?
A: Strong direct sunlight can interfere with infrared sensors. It is recommended to use a shielding tube or operate the sensor in shaded conditions for outdoor applications.
Q: Can this sensor detect black objects effectively?
A: Yes, but the detection distance for black objects will be shorter than for white or reflective objects due to lower light reflection. You may need to adjust the sensitivity potentiometer closer to the object.
Q: How do I adjust the detection distance?
A: There is a blue multi-turn potentiometer on the back of the PCB. Turn it clockwise to increase sensitivity (distance) and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Use a small screwdriver for adjustment.
