Perfect replacement

Easy to use for beginners

Solid build quality
The PCB feels sturdy and the gold plating is thick. It handles wet conditions well without shorting out. Just make sure to calibrate it for your specific soil type as density varies.

Stable readings
Unlike cheaper models, this one doesn't fluctuate wildly when the soil is very dry. The analog output is smooth, which makes calibration much easier. Highly recommended for anyone serious about soil monitoring.

Finally a sensor that doesn't rust!
I've burned through several resistive sensors in the past year because they corroded within weeks. This capacitive module has been in my tomato planter for two months now and still looks brand new. The readings are consistent and easy to read with my Arduino setup.

Great for automation projects
Works perfectly with my Mixly block coding environment. I was able to set up an automatic watering system in an afternoon. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the cable could be a bit longer for larger pots.
Q: How deep should I insert the sensor into the soil?
A: For best results, insert the sensor so that the entire prong area is submerged in the soil, but ensure the electronic components on the top of the PCB do not touch the dirt or water.
Q: Can this sensor be used directly with a 3.3V microcontroller?
A: Yes, this capacitive sensor operates comfortably within the 3.3V to 5V DC range, making it fully compatible with 3.3V boards like the ESP32 or Raspberry Pi.
Q: Is the output linear across the entire moisture range?
A: The output is generally linear, but we recommend performing a two-point calibration (one in air, one in water) for your specific soil type to maximize accuracy.
Q: Will this work outdoors in the rain?
A: The sensor itself is corrosion-resistant and handles wet soil well, but the exposed pins and connections should be protected or conformal coated if left permanently outdoors in heavy rain.
Q: Does this require any special libraries for Mixly?
A: No special libraries are needed. Since it outputs a standard analog signal, you can simply use the basic 'Read Analog Pin' block in Mixly to get the moisture value.
